UGM’s Values by UGM Postgraduate Program

On Friday, February 19, 2021, the Faculty of Animal Science (Fapet) Postgraduate Program held an event related to UGM values. The meeting was held online. The event discussed the intricacies of the spatial planning and philosophy of Gadjah Mada University.

Dr. Heri Santoso, Lecturer at the Faculty of Philosophy UGM as a speaker in the UGM values ​​event, explained things such as the area of UGM university. He said that each tree and its arrangement have its meaning. The philosophy of compliance with plants on the Boulevard symbolizes Bhinneka Tunggal Ika. The banyan tree in Pancasila Field symbolizes the spirit of society and protection, as well as many other explanations of the philosophy of plant arrangement at UGM.

“… This building, built with Indonesian people’s money, thus actually belongs to the people and for the people” (Soekarno, 1959). This quote is one of the quotes from Ir. Soekarno’s speech in the inauguration of UGM Central Building in 1959, which was explained by the speaker, Dr. Heri Susanto. The philosophical value of the construction of the Universitas Gadjah Mada Central Building is that the building uses people’s money, so that’s why it belongs to the people and for the people. Apart from the philosophy behind the construction of the Universitas Gadjah Mada Central Building, values ​​about symbols, identity, the values of Universitas Gadjah Mada, the meaning of Gadjah Mada, Universitas Gadjah Mada symbol, Gadjah Mada Hymne, Universitas Gadjah Mada flag, Universitas Gadjah Mada vision and mission, and Universitas Gadjah Mada values ​​are Pancasila and science were also reviewed in depth.

Welcoming New Students of Postgraduate Program Even Semester 2020/2021 Academic Year

Faculty of Animal Science UGM has welcomed 19 new Postgraduate Program students. These students include 14 Master Program students and 5 Doctoral program students and accepted at the Admission of New Student Admissions for the Even Semester Postgraduate Program in the 2020/2021 academic year. Activities carried out on Monday, February 8, 2021.

Prof. Dr. Ir. Ali Agus, DAA., DEA., IPU., ASEAN. Eng, in his remarks, explained that the accreditation of the Postgraduate Program from AUN guarantees that the quality of education is by following under the principles of appreciation and alignment with international higher education quality assurance, and now the Postgraduate Program is in the process of obtaining ASIIN accreditation. The faculty also builds connections with the world of the industry that can facilitate student research.

The study interests offered in the Master Program include Animal Nutrition and Feed Science, Animal Production System, Policy and Livestock Business, Animal Products Technology, and Tropical Animal Reproduction and Breeding. There are also five types of study interests offered in the Doctoral Program, including Animal Nutrition and Forage, Animal Production Systems, Animal Husbandry Social Economics, Animal Product Technology, and Tropical Animal Reproduction and Breeding. Pieces of information of interest in this study were informed by the Head of Doctoral Study Program Faculty of Animal Science UGM, Prof. Yuny Erwanto, S.Pt., M.P., Ph.D., IPM. at the academic information presentation session.

Library socialization by the Library of FAPET UGM

The Library of the Faculty of Animal Science (Fapet) UGM held a “Library Socialization.” The meeting was held on Thursday, January 7, 2021. The activity was carried out online. Drs. Tri Septiyantono, M.Sc., Head of the Faculty of Animal Science Library, was the speaker.

The information conveyed at the socialization event included the definition of a library, information resources, requirements for using the library, assistance, and library services, also information about using the menu on the library website. “Students at UGM can use all available information resources in all libraries in UGM,” said Tri Septiyantono.

Visitors can access many things in the library. The library provides a direct service with many kinds of books stored in the library. Learning support textbooks, scientific journals, repositories are also available, both printed and electronic. Students can search for sources of information using the Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC). The library also provides online database search assistance for journals and electronic books. The journals access from national and international and other sources, can be accessed within the campus and outside the campus by visiting http://lib.ugm.ac.id, and http://ezproxy.ugm.ac.id when from outside the campus.

 

Welcoming New Students of Postgraduate Program Odd Semester 2020/2021 Academic Year

Faculty of Animal Science UGM has accepted new students from the Postgraduate Program as many as 36 Master program students and 4 Doctoral students in the Odd Semester of the 2020/2021 academic year. The activity was held on Wednesday, September 9, 2020, attended by new students from the Postgraduate Program and Faculty of Animal Science UGM. It was carried out online.

Dean of the Faculty of Animal Science UGM, Prof. Dr. Ir. Ali Agus, DAA., DEA., IPU., ASEAN. Eng., in his remarks in the welcoming ceremony, said that the Postgraduate Program students should be grateful because of the admission, and students need to be serious in learning. Facilities and infrastructures, for example, like competent lecturers, could be maximally utilized by students. “It has done so that Postgraduate Program graduates could have good quality with knowledge and networking achievements,” He said.

There are 20 lecturers for the Postgraduate Program at the Faculty of Animal Science UGM Academic Year 2020/2021 with Professor title, and there are 32 people with Doctoral degrees. The facilities used for supporting lecture activities include the Animal Science Learning Center (ASLC) building, five departments with 14 laboratories, classrooms, discussion rooms, and other supporting facilities. Joint Program for Master Student (SUIJI JP-Ms)

Ike Tutwuri, Master Student of Faculty of Animal Science of Universitas Gadjah Mada, joined Six University Initiative Japan-Indonesia Joint Program for Master Student (SUIJI JP-Ms) from September 2019 to August 2020 at Kochi University, Japan. The title of the reserch was “The Effect of Beetroot (Beta vulgaris L.) Powder Addition on the Antioxidant Activity, Physical, Chemical, Sensory Properties, and TBARS of the Chicken Patty during Storage.” She did research at Laboratory of Food Chemistry, Faculty of Agriculture and Marine Science under the supervision of Prof Tomoko Shimamura from Kochi University and Dr. Ir. Jamhari, M.Agr.Sc., IPM., ASEAN Eng. from UGM.

Launching: New HMP for 2019 Period

On April 24th, the Graduate Student Association of Faculty of Animal Science (HMP) launched their board of executive for the 2019 period. The event was attended by the Secretary of Master’s Study Program, graduate students, and other representatives from student organizations in Faculty of Animal Science.

Secretary of Master’s Study Program, Muhlisin, S.Pt., M.Agri., Ph.D., addressed some messages for HMP. He mentioned that, hopefully HMP would be able to be a channel between students and study program in accommodating students’ aspirations.

The HMP President for 2019 period, Noor Asrianto presented his team and program plan for a year ahead. The program plan was formulated according to the previous programs with some new ones.

The HMP President for 2018 period shared his idea and evaluation over the previous HMP programs to give the new HMP an idea preventing the same constraints in the previous period.

SP-MAS is on Its Way for ASEAN Level Certification

Study Program of Master in Animal Science (SP-MAS) of UGM has been always improving its quality in multiple aspects. To assure its excellence, SP-MAS has been equipped with both internal and external quality assurance procedures. The University’s Quality Assurance Unit performs an annual internal audit to assess the performance of SP-MAS. Meanwhile, as an external quality assurance approach, SP-MAS has been maintaining its institutional accreditation (BAN-PT) in national level.

In 2019, SP-MAS has submitted its registration for ASEAN University Network – Quality Assurance (AUN-QA). The process took 1 year in preparation and the ending marked by the visitation by 2 assessors: Assoc. Prof. Chavalit Wongse-ek from Thailand and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rosula Reyes from Philippines (8-10 April 2019).

The assigned assessors visited the infrastructures and facilities, i.e. administrative office, classrooms, laboratory, animal facility, and library. The event also involved all board of executives, lecturers, support staffs, alumni, and graduate users both along the preparation and on hearing session as part of the visitation agenda.

The result of the certification is still under review. SP-MAS believes that an international certification will help the institution to boost its confidence in global level and support in achieving main goal of Faculty of Animal Science UGM to be the top 10 educational institutions in animal science in tropical countries.

6 Master’s and 1 Doctoral Students Graduated from FAS UGM

In the third period of graduation for academic year 2018/2019, 6 master’s students and 1 doctoral student graduated from Faculty of Animal Science UGM. The best master’s graduate, Galy Hardyta S.Pt., M.Sc., graduated cum laude with 3.89 of GPA. In the doctoral program, Dr. Nur Widodo obtained an very satisfactory GPA of 3.70 of GPA.

Other graduates are Faturrahman Hakim, Muhammad Dani, Restiyana Agusine, Risma Novela Esti, and Teguh Dwi Putra. The average time needed by master’s graduates to obtain their degree is 2 years and 4 months, a month short than the average study period in University level. Meanwhile, Dr. Widodo finished his study in 5 years and 1 month.

After attending the University graduation ceremony (24 April 2019), all graduate moved to Faculty of Animal Science to join the graduation celebration. In the event, the Faculty’s Dean congratulated all graduates for their accomplishment in completing their studies within shorter period of time compared to University level.

22 New Students Admitted to Graduate Program

Graduate Program at Faculty of Animal Science Universitas Gadjah Mada admitted 22 new student in Even Semester Intake 2018/2019. 20 students will be pursuing their master degree, while 2 others on doctoral program.

All students were welcomed and attended special meeting organized by Graduate Program. The meeting was arranged to welcome them as part of Faculty of Animal Science (26/02/19). It was also intended to give students insights regarding all laboratories at Faculty of Animal Science and wide-ranging research they have been performing.

Hopefully, students are able to plan their specialization and research topic since the beginning to succeed and shorten their study periods.

5 out of 6 Students Graduated Cum Laude

The Faculty of Animal Science graduated 5 master (M.Sc) and 1 doctoral (Dr) students in the field of Animal Science. 4 master graduates attained their degree cum laude, while another achieved very satisfactory predicate. Dian Astuti, S.Pt., M.Sc. was the best graduate from master program by achieving 3.96 GPA. Dr. Cahya Setya Utama, S.Pt., M.Sc., also graduated cum laude with 3.89 GPA.

Compared to the average of study period and GPA in the university level, graduates at Faculty of Animal Science performed very well. Master graduates at Faculty of Animal Science completed their degree in 1 year 11 months, shorter than 2 years and 3 months of average study length in university level. Dr. Cahya was also able to attained his doctoral degree in 3 years and 3 months, while the average in the university level was 5 years and 2 months.

Vice Dean of Finance, Assets, and Human Resources led the graduation ceremony on Janury 23th, 2019 at the Auditorium drh. R. Soepardjo. he advised graduates to always maintain the good name and relationship of their almamater. The ceremony was also attended by Graduate’s family and significant relatives. (adm)
