History of the Study Program of Master in Animal Science

The Study Program of Master in Animal Science was first opened on September 1, 1980 with 2 majors available, i.e. Animal Production and Animal Nutrition. In the academic year of 1981/1982 there had been added one more major namely Animal Breeding and Reproduction. In 1984 the Study Program of Master in Animal Science was developed into 3 (three) specializations, i.e. (1) Animal Production; (2) Animal Nutrition and Feed Science; (3). Animal Breeding and Reproduction.

In 1992 there was a simplification on the number of faculties as mandated by the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture No. 0331/0/1991 on the Closing of the Graduate Faculty and the Opening of the Graduate Program at the public University and Institute. Since the enactment of the decision, the Graduate Faculty was changed into the Graduate Program.

By the changes, The Graduate Program of Animal Science remained under the auspices of UGM Graduate Program. In 2002 the Study Program of Master in Animal Science had 4 specializations, i.e. (1) Animal Nutrition and Feed Science; (2) Animal Production; (3) Livestock Social Economics, and (4) Animal Product Technology.

In 2006, with the issuance of UGM Rector Decree no. 89/P/SK/HT/2006 concerning the Implementation of Graduate Monodisciplinary Program based under the Faculty, The Graduate Program of Animal Science has been managed again by Faculty of Animal Science UGM. Starting in 2018 curriculum, Study Program of Master in Animal Science offers 5 specializations, i.e. (1) Animal Nutrition and Feed Science; (2) Animal Production System; (3) Tropical Animal Breeding and Reproduction; (4) Policy and Livestock Business; and (5) Animal Product Technology.
