One of the tri dharma of higher education is to carry out community service. Community service is expected to help the community in finding solutions and innovations through various activities. In addition, community service is expected to be a forum for students to apply knowledge and learn directly.
The Postgraduate Student Association of the Faculty of Animal Science (HMP Fapet) and several lecturers conducted initial socialization of community service activity carried out in Duwet Village, Wonosari District, Gunung Kidul Regency, Yogyakarta. Administratively, there are six hamlets in Duwet village with a total population of 2,623 people, of which 1,271 are men and 1,352 are women. About 80% of the population work as farmers and ranchers. Data in the field shows that livestock ownership in Duwet Village is high. Almost every resident owns livestock, both as their main livelihood and as savings.
This initial socialization was held on Saturday, September 18, 2021. The activity was attended by the village headman of Duwet village and members of the Pertidadi livestock group. The initial socialization was carried out to introduce the planned activities and see the field conditions directly, and also holding discussions with farmers in Duwet Village.
The problem faced by farmers in Duwet Village is limited feed in the dry season. Geographical conditions also cause water limitations so that the cultivation of animal feed becomes constrained. Pak Warsito, the village head of Duwet Village, hopes that this service activity can provide solutions to the problems faced by Duwet Village breeders and provide innovations that can be applied directly by farmers. Not only that but also the members of the Pertitadi livestock group hope that this activity can improve the ability of members in terms of managing group administration and product marketing.
