Bella Putri Maharani, a student from Doctor of Animal Science Program, successfully defended her dissertation entitled “Nanoencapsulation Efficacy of Sungkai Leaf (Peronema Canescens Jack) Extract as a Natural Feed Additive for Broiler Chickens” in a closed dissertation examination on Friday, January 9th 2026 at the Faculty of Animal Science Universitas Gadjah Mada.
The research in this dissertation aimed to gather the optimal formulation of a stable sungkai leaf nanoencapsulation efficacy (NEDS), study the potential of NEDS as antibacterials, and to evaluate the in vito application of NEDS on broiler chickens. This research became one of the efforts to develop a natural feed additive that has the potential to replace synthetic antibiotics in the poultry industry. During her research, Bella Putri Maharani was supervised by Prof. Dr. Ir. Zuprizal, DEA., IPU., ASEAN Eng. as the promoter, and Ir. Nanung Danar Dono, Ph. D., IPM., ASEAN Eng. and drh. Bambang Ariyadi, M.P., Ph.D. as the co-promoters.
This research was conducted through three main steps, that is formulation, optimation, and nanoencapsulation characterization of sungkai leaf. The result shows that the nanoencapsulation sungkai leaf extract is proven to be an effective natural feed additive that has the potential to boost both performance and health of broiler chickens.
